Matanuska Glacier is for us a favorite picnic spot after an intensve glacier hike. The Matanuska Glacier (Alaska) heads in the Chugach Mountains and trends northwest 27 miles. The glacier's average width is 2 miles and here at its terminus it is 4 miles wide. The glacier has remained fairly stable the past 400 years. Summit at last! Half Dome is one of the best hikes I ever had in the USA. Breathtaking view of the park and the Yosemite Valley. Be aware, the hike is not easy and kind of extreme for the last span. Worth every drop of sweat if you can handle it though! State : California
