With the largest population of bears in the world, we had great opportunities to see these wild animals up close against breathtaking landscapes as a backdrop in Katmai National Park, Alaska! In early summer, the bears leave their dens and come to this area for the breeding season and to feed on the grasses that sprout in the spring. We saw the bears as close as 50 yards! View over Sikshak River and the vast wilderness of Katmai in Southwest Alaska. It was proclaimed a National Park in 1980. This isolated location is not accessible by road so we travel within these region by bushplane. With the largest population of bears in the world, we had great opportunities to see the wild animals up close against breathtaking landscapes as a backdrop! Meet Dwight. . .or Dwightella This little fellow (I always seem to assume these animals are male, which is an incorrect assumption from the photographer!) sprang up in my friend's hand during a wedding rehearsal in Port Orchard, Washington.
