The waters outside Valdez are filled with various types of whales. Although no tour company can guarantee a sighting, it would be a shame not to try. And sometimes you beat the beauty of a jumping humpback whale. They make the Prince William Sound a part of their annual summer trek. Humpbacks ar baleen feeders, consuming nearly a ton of food a day. Humpbacks average 45 feet and weigh 35-40 tons. Shot made with Nikon D3000/300 mm tele lens. Worthington glacier is a nice example of a retreating valley glacier and easily seen by any travelers along the Richardson Highway between Valdez and Glenallen (Alaska). The Prince William Sound,located in south central Alaska, is home to many active glaciers that crawl out of the Chugach Mountains. Meares Glacier is located at the end of the Unawik Inlet. At the terminus the glacier is 1,6km wide and has a face of ice about 60m high. In summer there are daily boat tours to the glacier out of the town of Valdez.
